Introduction to modification analytics

The Frosmo Platform automatically tracks (counts) the following basic events for a modification:

  • Click: The visitor has clicked a part of the modification for which clicks are tracked, such as a button, link, or any element with the class frosmo-click. If the modification has no clickable parts, it cannot get a click.
  • Display: Frosmo Core has rendered the modification to the page. The display event does not require that the modification has been in the browser viewport and therefore visible to the visitor.
  • True display: The modification has remained visible and stationary in the browser viewport for at least 3 seconds. In addition, if the modification's width and height are both less than or equal to 300 pixels, the modification must have been fully in the viewport. If the modification's width or height is greater than 300 pixels, at least 75% of the modification must have been in the viewport.

The platform only counts one basic event of each type per modification per page load. That is, a modification can only get a single click, a single display, and a single true display per page load, no matter how many times the visitor actually clicks or views the modification before reloading the page or navigating to another page.

In addition to the basic events, the Frosmo Platform also tracks (counts) the following performance-related events for a modification:

  • Conversion: The modification is attributed a conversion through a click, display, or true display that the modification got. For more information about conversion attribution, see Introduction to conversion tracking.
  • Custom event: The modification gets a special event you are specifically tracking for the modification. Custom events are an advanced tracking feature.

The Frosmo Platform does not automatically track conversions and custom events, so you need to implement their tracking separately.

The Frosmo Platform tracks basic events, conversions, and custom events separately for each variation of a modification.

Based on the basic event and conversion counts, the Frosmo Platform automatically calculates the following basic performance metrics for a modification:

  • Click-through rate (CTR): The ratio of clicks to displays or true displays that the modification gets. The platform tracks CTR separately for displays and true displays.
  • Conversion rate (CR): The percentage of all visitors that completed a conversion after clicking or seeing the modification. The platform tracks CR separately for clicks, displays, and true displays.
  • Total revenue: Total revenue attributed to the modification after the modification was clicked or displayed. The platform tracks total revenue separately for clicks, displays, and true displays.

Viewing basic modification statistics

You can view the following basic statistics for a modification:

  • Displays
  • True displays
  • Clicks
  • Conversions after click
  • Conversions after display
  • Conversions after true display (table)
  • CTR for displays
  • CTR for true displays (table)
  • CR for clicks
  • CR for displays
  • CR for true displays (table)
  • Average conversion value after click (graph)
  • Average conversion value after display (graph)
  • Total revenue from clicks (table)
  • Total revenue from displays (table)
  • Total revenue from true displays (table)

You can view the statistics in a graph, which shows the changes in the statistics over time, and in a table, which shows the total cumulative values for the statistics. In addition, in the graph, you can view the unique counts for clicks, displays, and true displays.

Unique counts are calculated by visitor rather by individual event. For example, if the same modification variation is displayed to a visitor seven times, that counts as seven displays and one unique display for that variation.

Average conversion value means the average value (normally, revenue) of the conversions attributed to the modification after the modification was clicked or displayed.

Conversion-based statistics are only available if conversion tracking is enabled for the modification, which it is by default. If conversion tracking is disabled and you want to enable it, see Introduction to conversion tracking for instructions.

To view the basic statistics for a modification:

  1. In the Frosmo Control Panel, select Modifications > Overview.
  2. In the modifications list, find the modification whose statistics you want to view.
  3. Click the quick menu button for the modification, and select Analyze. The modification Statistics views opens.
  4. In the Start date and End date fields, select the time range for which you want to view the statistics.
  5. In the Conversion type field, select the conversion type for which you want to view the statistics. If you want to view the statistics for all conversions, select All.
  6. Click Show.

  7. View the statistics:
    • Graph (statistics over time)

By default, the graph displays the daily displays and unique displays for the modification over the selected time range. You can select between a daily, weekly, and monthly view for the graph. You can also select which statistic to display in the graph.

      Configuring the graph 1

You can further refine the graph by selecting to show only specific variations (including the comparison group, if defined), either the full or unique counts for the statistic, and annotations, if any. To show or hide a value, click its selector below the graph.

    • Table (cumulative statistics)

The counts are tracked separately for each variation (including the comparison group, if defined). The total counts by event or metric are listed at the bottom of the table. Use the scroll bar at the bottom of the table to view different types of statistics.

By default, the cumulative statistics are based on displays. If you want to calculate the statistics based on true displays, select Use true display to calculate.

The following figures show the same statistics calculated based on displays and true displays, respectively.

Downloading basic modification statistics

You can download a report of the following basic statistics for a modification:

  • Displays and unique displays
  • True displays and unique true displays
  • Clicks and unique clicks
  • Conversions after click
  • Conversions after display
  • CTR for displays
  • CR for clicks
  • CR for displays
  • Average conversion value after click
  • Average conversion value after display

A report file is generated and downloaded to your computer. The file is in the Microsoft Office Open XML Workbook (XLSX) format.
